Gap Campsite FireSmart User Acknowledgement

All registered users must review and acknowledge the following before arriving at the campsite.

Before departure

☐ I have checked the current wildfire danger, fire restrictions, fire bans, forest-area closures, and emergency orders for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area.

☐ I understand that wildfire conditions and restrictions may change before or during my stay.

☐ I understand that all Alberta wildfire restrictions, bans, closures, and emergency orders take priority over my reservation.

☐ I will review current information at:

• Alberta Fire Bans
• Rocky Mountain House Forest Area wildfire updates

☐ I understand that the Alberta River Rats Society may cancel or suspend a reservation because of wildfire risk, smoke, evacuation concerns, or an official closure.

Campfire rules

☐ I will use only the single designated metal fire ring.

☐ I will not build a second fire ring, ground fire, rock fire pit, trench fire, or shoreline fire.

☐ I will not move the fire ring or relocate the designated fire area.

☐ I will not light a campfire when prohibited by a fire restriction, fire ban, closure, or emergency order.

☐ I understand that campfires may be prohibited even when access to the campsite remains open.

☐ I will keep the fire small, manageable, and continuously attended by a responsible adult.

☐ I will keep water and a shovel immediately available whenever a campfire is burning.

☐ I will not leave the campsite, go to sleep, or enter a tent while the fire is still burning or producing heat.

☐ I will not use gasoline, diesel, solvents, or other highly flammable liquids to start or intensify a fire.

☐ I will not burn garbage, plastics, cans, glass, treated wood, painted wood, or hazardous materials.

Firewood and vegetation

☐ I will not cut live trees, shrubs, branches, or other vegetation.

☐ I will not remove standing dead trees.

☐ I will not use a chainsaw at the campsite.

☐ I will use only firewood permitted under the campsite operating rules and current provincial requirements.

☐ I will not collect bark, needles, dry grass, woody debris, or other fine fuels from surrounding habitat for burning.

☐ I will keep combustible material, tents, chairs, fuel containers, and personal property a safe distance from the fire ring.

☐ I will not damage vegetation to create additional campsites, views, paths, or gathering areas.

Cooking and fuel equipment

☐ I will use only cooking and heating appliances permitted under the current fire restriction or ban.

☐ I will operate fuel-burning appliances on a stable, non-combustible surface away from dry vegetation.

☐ I will not leave a stove, barbecue, lantern, heater, or other ignition source unattended.

☐ I will inspect fuel lines, connections, valves, and containers before use.

☐ I will keep fuel containers closed, upright, protected from heat, and away from the fire ring.

☐ I will not refuel appliances while they are hot or operating.

☐ I will not transfer fuel near the riverbank, tents, open flames, or ignition sources.

Extinguishing the fire

☐ I will fully extinguish the fire before leaving the campsite or going to sleep.

☐ I will drown the fire with water, stir the ashes, add more water, and continue until all material is cool to the touch.

☐ I understand that ashes that look extinguished may remain hot and capable of causing a wildfire.

☐ I will not bury hot ashes or cover them with soil.

☐ I will not dispose of hot ash, embers, or charcoal in vegetation, garbage containers, the river, or the outhouse.

☐ I will immediately report any fire that escapes the metal fire ring.

Smoking and ignition sources

☐ I will fully extinguish cigarettes, cigars, matches, and other smoking materials.

☐ I will not discard smoking materials on the ground, in vegetation, or into the river.

☐ I will not use fireworks, exploding targets, sky lanterns, flares, or other recreational incendiary devices.

☐ I will not use equipment that produces sparks unless specifically authorized and safe under current conditions.

Emergency preparedness

☐ I have provided accurate names and numbers for everyone in my party.

☐ I have provided an emergency contact and accurate arrival and departure information.

☐ I understand that the campsite is remote and primarily accessible by river.

☐ I will maintain access to a functioning communication device suitable for the location, recognizing that cellular service may be unreliable.

☐ I will follow all evacuation instructions issued by Alberta Wildfire, police, search and rescue, Forestry and Parks, or other emergency authorities.

☐ I understand that evacuation may require immediate departure by water or movement to a designated muster location.

☐ I will not delay evacuation to retrieve equipment, boats, tents, or personal property.

☐ I will immediately report smoke, an uncontrolled fire, or unsafe fire behaviour.

In an emergency, call 911 where service is available.

☐ I agree to comply with all campsite wildfire-prevention rules and all applicable provincial restrictions, bans, closures, and emergency orders.

☐ I understand that failure to follow these requirements may result in cancellation of the reservation, removal from the campsite, loss of future booking privileges, reporting to authorities, and responsibility for resulting damage or response costs where permitted by law.
