Gap Campsite Pack-In/Pack-Out and Site Stewardship Agreement

Alberta River Rats Society

Gap Campsite is a remote, river-access-only site with no garbage collection or disposal service. Every user is responsible for removing everything brought to the campsite and leaving the site clean and undamaged.

Compliance with this agreement is a condition of every reservation.

1. Pack in, pack out

☐ I will remove all property, supplies, food, garbage and waste brought to or generated by my party.

☐ I understand that “pack out” includes small items such as bottle caps, cigarette butts, food wrappers, twist ties, fishing line, foil, broken equipment and food particles.

☐ I will not leave food, beverages, firewood, fuel, cooking supplies or equipment for future users.

☐ I will not leave items at the campsite because they appear reusable or helpful.

2. Garbage and recycling

☐ All garbage, recycling, food waste and odorous refuse will be sealed and secured on the provided bear lines until departure.

☐ I will use durable, leak-resistant bags or containers.

☐ I will not leave garbage in tents, boats, coolers, around the fire ring, beside the outhouse or elsewhere in camp.

☐ I will not burn, bury, scatter, conceal or abandon garbage.

☐ I will not place garbage, food waste, diapers, wipes, menstrual products or other refuse in the outhouse.

☐ I will not dispose of garbage or waste in the river or along the shoreline.

3. Food and cooking waste

☐ I will pack out all food scraps, grease, cooking oil, coffee grounds, tea bags and strained dishwater solids.

☐ I will not burn food waste or grease in the fire ring.

☐ I will not pour grease, food residue or untreated dishwater into the river.

☐ I will clean cooking surfaces and equipment promptly and secure them when unattended.

4. Fish and angling waste

☐ I will not clean fish within the campsite.

☐ I will not leave bait, fish remains, fishing line, hooks, packaging or contaminated equipment unsecured.

☐ Fish remains and bait waste will be managed in accordance with provincial requirements and will not be left at the campsite, placed in the fire ring, deposited in the outhouse or improperly discarded along the shoreline.

5. Sanitary waste

☐ I will use the outhouse only for human bodily waste and toilet paper unless ARRS expressly directs otherwise.

☐ Diapers, wipes, menstrual products, personal hygiene items and packaging must be sealed, secured and packed out.

☐ I will not place chemicals, fuel, garbage, food, greywater or cleaning products in the outhouse.

6. Fire ring

☐ I will use only the designated metal fire ring.

☐ I will not use the fire ring as a garbage incinerator.

☐ I will not leave cans, glass, foil, food, nails, melted plastic or other debris in the fire ring.

☐ Before departure, I will remove any non-wood material introduced by my party.

☐ Ashes and extinguished wood already forming part of the authorized fire-ring system will be managed only as directed by ARRS.

7. Vegetation and natural materials

☐ I will not cut live trees, shrubs or branches.

☐ I will not remove standing dead trees.

☐ I will not dig trenches, level new tent sites or disturb vegetation to expand the campsite.

☐ I will not create new trails, fire rings, seating areas or shoreline access points.

☐ Rocks, logs and natural materials will not be rearranged except where necessary to address an immediate safety concern.

8. Personal property

☐ I will remove all tents, tarps, ropes, chairs, boats, fuel containers, coolers and other personal property when my reservation ends.

☐ Nothing may be cached, hidden, tied to vegetation or stored at the site between reservations.

☐ I understand that abandoned property may be removed and disposed of by ARRS.

9. Spill prevention and reporting

☐ Fuel and liquid products will be stored upright, closed and protected from damage.

☐ Refuelling and fuel transfer will occur away from the river, shoreline and ignition sources.

☐ I will immediately contain and report any spill, leak or release.

☐ I will not wash fuel, oil, soap, chemicals or contaminated material into the river or soil.

10. Departure inspection

Before leaving, the primary registered user will inspect:

  • all tent pads;
  • the cooking and eating area;
  • the fire-ring area;
  • the bear-line area;
  • the outhouse vicinity;
  • the shoreline and landing area;
  • and any location used by the party.

☐ I will remove all garbage, supplies and personal property.

☐ I will ensure no food, odorous waste or attractants remain.

☐ I will report damage, spills, wildlife incidents, unsafe conditions or items left by earlier users to ARRS.

☐ I will provide departure photographs if required by the booking conditions.

11. Enforcement

I understand that failure to comply may result in:

  • immediate cleanup or removal requirements;
  • cancellation of the remainder of the stay;
  • loss of future booking privileges;
  • recovery of reasonable cleanup or repair costs where legally permitted;
  • and reporting of serious violations to the appropriate authority.

User acknowledgement

☐ I accept responsibility for the conduct and waste of every member of my party.

  • ☐I agree to leave the campsite in an equal or better condition than I found it.
  • ☐When booking the site I agree to follow these terms
